Why the cowrie shell became the symbol of Rosyne Club

Some symbols endure through the centuries.

The cowrie shell is one of those.

Present for generations in West Africa, this small shell has long accompanied exchanges, travels, and encounters between peoples. Long before the appearance of modern currencies, it already served as a medium of exchange and circulated through kingdoms, markets, and trade routes.

But the cowrie shell has never been just an object.

Over time, it has become a symbol.

A symbol of transmission.

A symbol of prosperity.

A symbol of connection between generations.

In Benin, as in many regions of West Africa, its story still remains part of the collective memory today.

When we imagined the identity of Rosyne Club, we were looking for a symbol capable of telling something bigger than the brand itself.

A symbol rooted in history.

A symbol capable of crossing time.

The cowrie shell naturally imposed itself.

But we didn’t just want to reproduce a shell.

We wanted to give it a new expression.

A new life.

We then chose to place the cowrie shell at the center of a flower.

This transformation is at the heart of our identity.

The cowrie shell represents heritage.

The memory.

The roots.

The flower represents what grows.

That which blossoms.

That which transforms without denying its origin.

It is this meeting between heritage and evolution that gave birth to the Rosyne Club logo.

The flower also echoes the name Rosyne.

It evokes femininity, elegance, and transmission.

Values that hold an important place in the brand’s history.

Thus, our logo is not simply a graphic element.

It tells a story.

The idea that we can move forward without forgetting where we come from.

The idea that traditions are not meant to remain frozen but to continue living through new generations.

The idea that skills, cultures, and stories gain their full value when passed on.

This vision is reflected today in our collections, in our work with Beninese Kanvô, in our workshop in Cotonou, and in each person involved in the Rosyne Club adventure.

The cowrie shell is ancient.

The flower looks toward the future.

The Rosyne Club logo is the meeting point between the two.

And that is precisely why we chose it.
